The Biomedical Imaging Unit at the University of Southampton has recently installed a much needed Leica TCS SP2 confocal laser scanning system for its work studying many medical conditions
Dr Anton Page, head of the Biomedical Imaging Unit at the University of Southampton, said of the new system: "We particularly like the way the TCS SP2 uses spectrophotometers instead of filters for each detector channel.
It allows us to tailor the detector settings to individual users' requirements." "The imaging unit is a central facility providing diagnostic services for the NHS Trust and research services for the University's School of Medicine and Biological Sciences.
The TCS SP2 is used in a large number of research projects looking at conditions as diverse as meningitis, asthma, allergy, and inflammatory bowel and kidney diseases.
We have also ordered more software for dynamic live cell imaging, so we will soon be able to observe cellular changes such as cell migration, calcium fluxes, pH changes, and movement of labelled macromolecules."
