Metrohm's 774 oven sample processor can discriminate between free water on the surface and bound water within the crystsalline lattice of samples
Using the 774 oven sample processor from Metrohm, it is now possible to discriminate the type of moisture in your product. This has been brought about by the unique temperature ramping programme in the 774, which enables the user to plot the profile of moisture versus temperature.
From the corresponding graph it is easy to distinguish whether the moisture present is surface or bound in the product.
In addition, by using this technique one may also find the optimum temperature to analyse routine samples without degrading them.
The 774 allow up to 32 samples to be analysed in a single run, with virtually no sample preparation. The samples are in vials and taken to a small oven within the system, where it is heated either at a fixed rate or via the temperature ramp programme and the resultant water vapour is passed to a Karl Fischer titrator for moisture determination. This technique is automatic and takes about five minutes per sample.
The whole system may be software controlled allowing results to be archived and manipulated as required.
