Metrohm has introduced OMNIS IC, a new generation of automated ion chromatography systems designed to give laboratories greater flexibility, automation and control over routine and complex analytical workflows.
Built around the established OMNIS platform, the new system uses a modular approach that allows laboratories to configure an ion chromatography solution around their individual requirements. Pumps, injectors, detectors, dosing units and other functional modules can be combined as required, with the option to expand the system as analytical demands change.
Pre-configured OMNIS IC S, M and L systems are available for single and dual-channel applications, while laboratories can also develop customised configurations.
A major focus of OMNIS IC is reducing manual laboratory workload. Automated workflows can cover processes from sample preparation through to evaluation and reporting. Metrohm Inline Sample Preparation (MISP) provides options including ultrafiltration, dilution, dialysis, preconcentration, matrix elimination and intelligent partial-loop injection.
The system also incorporates continuous monitoring of parameters including pressure, flow and liquid levels. Pre-run and equilibration checks help ensure analyses begin under appropriate conditions, while functions including AutoPurge and AutoRinse are designed to maintain clean, gas-free flow paths and minimise sample carryover.
Operation is controlled through OMNIS Software, which provides a common environment for instrument control, workflow management and analytical results. The wider OMNIS platform can also integrate ion chromatography with titration and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, allowing results from different analytical techniques to be managed together.
For regulated laboratories, OMNIS IC also supports compliance requirements including FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and EudraLex Volume 4, Annex 11.
The combination of modular hardware and automation means laboratories can start with the configuration they need today and expand the system as sample volumes, workflows or analytical requirements develop.
