Low-cost instrument with low running costs and good warranty make this ion chromatograph an interesting option for educational establishments
Up until now only complex or expensive solution were available in the market place for teaching the techniques of ion chromatography (IC).
The 792 Basic IC system is a fully grown IC system which offers flexibility in ion analysis for experienced and novice users.
In educational establishments the cost of ownership is important, in that the operating costs associated with the instrument have to be financed as well as the installation of utilities (eg, gas supply).
Metrohm says that the cost of ownership of its 792 Basic system is exceptionally low, in that the cost of the instrument is below £6000.
Running costs are also low: no expensive external gas supply is required; the built in double piston pump naturally provides a low pulsation flow, ensuring a stable baseline.
No expensive nitrogen or helium is required for the functioning of the injection valve.
Even with high sample throughput, only inexpensive solutions are required: carbonate/bicarbonate eluents, dilute sulphuric acid and ultra pure water.
The ten year warranty on the Metrohm Suppressor Module also shows the confidence that Metrohm has in the quality of its products.
For the students, a series of 22 individual experiments are set out in a training manual, which covers a large proportion of the practical aspects of IC that will be needed for most applications in the future and bring out the theory of ion chromatography.
