In fact ASU stands for automatic sampling unit - which can be fitted easily to Mettler Toledo's benchtop density meters. The ASU reduces errors and eliminates the need to use a syringe to add samples to the cell.
The user just places the tube into the sample, presses the measure key, and the pump switches on drawing the sample up in to the cell.
After the test is complete the pump switches back to empty the cell - even prompting for rinse and dry.
This ensures the system is always left clean and dry, ready for the next sample.
The drain, rinse and purge processes still require operation from the user, but the sequence (timing) can be programmed, guaranting reproducible measuring results to meet GLP requirements.
So it really is A Simple Unit.
