Metering and dosing applications often require pumps capable of delivering accurate and variable pulseless flows - situations where Micropump gear pumps are appropriate
Available through Michael Smith Engineers, Micropump magnetically coupled gear pumps with digital drives are finding interesting new applications.
One recent example is a pharmaceutical application where laboratory staff needed to transfer accurate flows of 10% dimethylformamide solution.
To cover the flow rates for this application two pump head assemblies were selected, comprising of a Micropump 180 Series capable of flows up to 250ml/min and a second Micropump 200 Series delivering flows up to 3000ml/min.
These were supplied with an MPD55D digital drive unit to give accurate control of flow.
The MPD55D digital drive allows the pumps to be driven at speeds between 100 and 3000rpm, with manual control possible via the touch sensitive keyboard, with the speed of the unit shown on an LED display. Alternatively, the speed can be controlled remotely via a 0 to 10 volt or 4 to 20 mA signal.
These pumps were both of 316SS construction and incorporated Peek gears and FFKM seals.
Suitable for use within a pharmaceutical process environment, the pumps were fitted with 'tri-clamp' connections to enable the lines to the pumps to be quickly and easily transferred when a change of flow was required.
Other features of the MPD55D drive unit are remote start / stop facility, volumetric dosing, built-in calibration and an RS 232 interface.
