Nikon Instruments UK has strengthened its sales force by appointing two biological imaging specialists.
Colin Wright is responsible for the south of the country and Alan Monk will manage the north.
Their role is to help develop tailored systems to meet the specific needs of biosciences research market and for applications in the healthcare and biotechnology sectors.
Colin Wright joined Nikon in 2002 as an area sales manager for biomedical and life science applications.
Before that he worked for biomedical imaging systems supplier Improvision, initially as UK sales manager and then as product manager.
Wright, who has an MSc in modern optics, began his career with Hamamatsu Photonics in 1989 as an internal sales engineer providing product and system support.
He later became system division sales engineer responsible for biomedical and industrial imaging systems.
Alan Monk joins Nikon from Image Solutions, where he was a product specialist responsible for developing bespoke microscopy, digital image capture and image analysis systems for bioscience applications.
He also has 16 years' experience as a clinical cytogeneticist working as team leader in the Centre for Medical Genetics at City Hospital, Nottingham.
Specialising in solid tumours, his responsibilities included the assessment, cell culture, analysis, interpretation and reporting of a range of human clinical samples.
Monk says: "These are exciting times for microscopy.
"Live cell imaging is becoming increasingly important in biological research and in particular flourescence microscopy.
"Providing a system to fulfil a particular role requires a comprehensive understanding of what researchers are trying to achieve and my job will be to look at what happens beyond the microscope".
Wright added: "Nikon has always excelled in making top-class bioresearch microscopes.
"Now we can show the market what our cell imaging and image analysis systems can do."
