All-in-one digital imaging microscope chosen as one of the most technologically significant products introduced over the past year
Nikon Instruments rerports that R and D Magazine, a publication serving applied research and development, university, non-profit and government professionals, has chosen Coolscope, an all-in-one digital imaging microscope, as one of the most technologically significant products introduced over the past year.
The Coolscope combines a microscope and a digital camera in one compact unit. It has no eyepieces - images are displayed on a screen.
Once an area of interest on a slide has been selected, it can be simply captured with the click of a mouse.
The winning of an R and D 100 Award provides a mark of excellence known to industry, government, and academia as proof that the product represents one of the most innovative ideas of the year.
R and D has recognised some of the most advanced and revolutionary innovations over the last 50 years, including anti-lock brakes, liquid crystal displays and HDTV technology.
"Nikon Instruments is delighted to receive such a prestigious award recognising the significance and value of Coolscope", commented Robert Forster, general manager, Nikon Instruments UK.
"Its development exemplifies Nikon's continuing commitment to innovation and optical excellence, and it defines our approach to delivering simple, ergonomic solutions to complex technical or practical problems".
The R and D 100 awards name the most innovative new products introduced into the market over the past year as selected by a panel of independent judges as well as editors of R and D Magazine.
All entries are initially judged by outside experts.
Outside judges are chosen from among professional consultants, university faculty, and industrial researchers with superior expertise and long experience in the areas they are judging.
They must also be completely unbiased and have no conflicts of interest with any entries they are judging.
