Another year of excellent achievement, says the sponsor, presenting its annual awards in food and drink hygiene and safety
Following Oxoid's food seminar day at the Ardencote Manor Hotel, Warwickshire, (where key figures from the UK food industry spoke about current issues in food and drink hygiene and safety) winners of the 2002/2003 Oxoid Awards were presented with their prizes at a special awards dinner.
First prizes were awarded in four categories.
Oxoid technician of the year, where the winner was Mark Hayes of Southern Salads, Tonbridge, Kent.
Oxoid in-house laboratory of the year was won by Katsouris Fresh Foods, Wembley.
Eclipse Scientific, Ashford, Kent is this year's Oxoid contract laboratory of the year.
Alison Aitchison of Scottish Courage Brewing took first prize in the newly introduced Oxoid award for beer quality and brewery hygiene.
Other technician of the year winners were Lynsey Barnes of Delta Daily Foods, Katie Hampson ofFreshbake Foods, and Kerry Mexson, placement year student at Leatherhead Food International.
Second prize in the laboratory category went to Southern Salads, and third prize to Del Monte Fresh Packaged Produce UK.
A highly commended award for innovation was given to Uniq Prepared Foods (part of Telfer Foods).
Philip May of Adnams won second prize in the beer quality and brewery hygiene awards, with Martin Barry of Salopian Brewery taking third.
