Home analysis service aimed at identifying hazards from lead in paint, pipework, batteries, and other household items has scanning analyser at the core of operations
A new company, believed to be the first of its kind in the UK, has been established to combat the dangers of lead in the home. Lead Test offers home analysis, followed by advice and services, to those individuals concerned that their homes may be contaminated.
At the heart of the company is the Palintest SA-5000 scanning analyser, a powerful analytical tool for testing lead levels in water, paint, dust, and soil which is compact, easy to use, and provides on-the-spot results.
Lead is now recognised as a serious hazard in our environment.
It is a potent toxin that is believed to affect the mental development of children.
The use of lead compounds in paint, pipework, automobile fuels, batteries and industrial products over many years has produced widespread contamination of homes and the workplace, and it is claimed that one in ten British children under the age of six are suffering from lead poisoning. Previously, it has been extremely difficult to establish if a home or workplace is contaminated with lead, but with the scanning analyzer instrument, the company can easily tell whether a family is at risk from being slowly poisoned in their own homes.
Edward Davidson of Lead Test also runs a paint stripping company and used to have to rely on lead testing kits that were universally recognised as inaccurate.
The company started using the SA-5000 after Edward learned that the technology had been recommended for the testing of drinking water by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
It replaced the lead testing kits and provided a simple, effective means for the company to assess lead levels, ensuring they could take appropriate steps to protect homeowners and staff from lead poisoning when removing contaminated paint.
The new company offers homeowners the opportunity to have not only their paint but also their water, dust, and soil tested.
Samples are taken and testing can be carried out in the home or in the laboratory, providing same-day results.
The company also offers an analysis service for samples of paint, dust or soil sent in by post.
It can then offer advice on making the home lead safe, including suggestions for safe decorating, or can provide a full lead removal and clean-up service.
As well as Lead Test, Edward also operates a lead poisoning information site, www.leadsafehome.co.uk, which features the most up-to-date information from around the world and is linked to many important health and government sites.
