Picosorb has unveiled its new website.
The revamped and updated site reflects the new company focus on molecular testing and isolation of target DNA prior to PCR, in particular.
The MicroProbe DNA extraction system is based on magnetic bead capture of nucleic acid, where the complete nucleic acid extraction process is contained within the patented PicoPak consumable to eliminate laboratory contamination and sample carry-over.
The PicoPaks are automatically processed by the robotic MicroProbe instrument.
Sample identification throughout the whole extraction process is made easier by the PicoPak using bar coding or manual methods, in comparison with microplate based methods.
The consumable costs are minimised by eliminating the need for pipette tips, microplates etc The MicroProbe is a robotic instrument for handling up to 32 PicoPaks (64 samples) held in a carousel.
The MicroProbe will automatically add reagents, buffers and wash solutions through peristaltic pumps. It will expel solutions via an air pump, mix the reaction chamber contents and activate magnets on to the PicoPak in order to attract the magnetic beads.
These steps are all software controlled and completely flexible in timing and sequence. Depending on the protocol, an average full run of 64 samples takes approximately one hour.
The MicroProbe system will be exhibited and launched at Medica in Dusseldorf 19-22 November 2003.
