Point Technologies announces the appointment of Clive James, formerly at UTI, as director of business development
Point Technologies, a precision manufacturing company serving the medical device, semiconductor and biotech communities, announced the appointment of Clive James as director of business development.
James, a native of Wales, joins Point Technologies after a four-year career at the Star Guide division of UTI, where he was most recently project and programme manager.
"Clive brings an enormous depth of experience in the management of projects critical to company growth in the medical device industry" said Kirk O'Brien, CEO and president of Point Technologies.
Prior to joining Point Technologies, James served in a variety of engineering and management positions during his tenure with Star Guide and UTI.
He began his career as engineering and operations manager for Jameco Metal Products in NY.
James held subsequent positions within UTI including international manufacturing engineering manager.
He holds a BA degree in mechanical engineering from Coventry City University in the UK.
"He is joining Point Technologies at a key point in the evolution of the company, as we ramp up our activity in the medical device and biotech markets and commercialise our electrochemical etching, pointing and plating technologies in those market areas".
O'Brien also noted that Point Tech plans to increase its position in Nitinol polishing, coil sharpening and razor edged tubing in the future.
Nitinol is a nickel/titanium alloy that has a shape memory and is used in a variety of medical applications, including many implantables. Sharpened coils are used as fetal scalp electrodes, cardiac rhythm management contacts, ligament anchors and many other applications.
Razor-edged tubing is used as aortic punches, micro-biopsy punches and microtrephines
