£100,000 award from UK Department of Trade and Industry to develop five polymer bound reagents for solid phase synthesis, combinatorial chemistry and scavenger resins
Polymer Laboratories says it is pleased to be a recent winner of a Smart award from the UK's secretary of state for trade and industry in recognition of a development programme in the field of drug development.
Specifically, the programme is to develop five polymer bound reagents for solid phase synthesis (SPS), combinatorial chemistry and scavenger resins.
These new chemistries will be developed working alongside pharmaceutical companies to provide precisely the resin-bound chemistry required for specific developments.
This will allow Polymer Laboratories to provide products for pharmaceutical development with higher levels of purity than currently available.
In turn, pharmaceutical companies should enjoy reduced drug discovery and development times for bringing highly beneficial new drugs to market.
The Smart grant is worth over £100,000, and has enabled the company to become an international leader in this highly specialised sector.
Polymer Laboratories has already employed five additional staff to work in this field, and anticipates trebling this number as the project draws towards completion.
The company has already employed 16 new members of staff in its new production unit since it was opened two years ago, and is becoming a leading supplier of high quality polymer particles to the pharmaceutical industry.
