Precision-Optical Engineering has launched a new series of technical data sheets to support optical system engineering, diamond machining, and interferometry for optical quality monitoring
The new data sheets are available as downloadable PDF files from the technical library section of P-OE's web site, then following the links.
Further titles will be added to the series on a regular basis.
The first interferometry publication, IF001, is entitled 'Testing of objective lenses'.
This reviews interferometric methods for testing objective lenses using transmission and reference spheres, with particular reference to diffraction effects when testing infra-red lenses.
OSE001, 'Transverse ray aberrations', is the first publication covering optical system engineering.
This looks at the assessment of optical system resolution by transverse aberration plots. Examples of vertical, horizontal and oblique ray fans are given. Bridging the divide between diamond machining and optical systems engineering is DM001, entitled 'Definition of an aspheric surface'.
This looks at the optimal numerical expression of aspheric surfaces for the purposes of optical design programmes and for manufacturing processes.
Details are also given on the preferred way to show on a manufacturing drawing the definition of an aspheric profile for an optical surface.
The second sheet in the diamond machining section, DM002, is entitled 'Image slicers in integral field spectroscopy' and covers the production of mirror segmented in thin horizontal sections (slices) and its application in astronomy in the field of integral field spectroscopy.
