Portable FTIR device from Spectrolab, Anaspec, and Interspectrum claimed to be able to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions including diabetes and specific cancers
Spectromed is a new company formed to exploit technologies developed at Spectrolab over the past three years based on a unique new portable double beam Fourier transform infra red spectrophotometer The new technology is called Mediscreen and is based on a remarkable portable FTIR and FTNIR spectrophotometer designed specifically for medical applications.
It can be used to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions including diabetes, dermatology, specific cancers and skin disorders plus a range of other medical ailments.
In addition because the technology is based directly on the measurement of variations in molecular abnormalities, it is also possible to use the instrument for direct analysis of tissue at the operating theatre as a major support technique for surgical procedures.
Because the Mediscreen system is fully portable (it fits into a brief case) it can also be used for large scale medical screening applications and it is hoped these applications will become of vital interest to the medical world.
