Exhibition organiser adds laboratory technology feature to the 2004 Southern Manufacturing show, highlighting the importance of south east England to UK industry
One of the outstanding success stories for the application and growth of technology in the UK is the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector.
The UK produces more of the world's leading medicines and there are more bio/pharmaceutical company start-up successes than anywhere else in the world bar the USA.
UK biotechnology companies embrace everything from pharmaceutical and diagnostics to speciality chemicals, food, agriculture, and the environment.
The south east of England is the hothouse for these success stories, with nine of the world's top-ten pharmaceutical companies, more than half the UK's biotech workforce, the highest regional R and D expenditure, more bio/pharmaceutical companies than anywhere else in the UK, and almost a third of the UK's natural sciences R and D employees.
This adds up to a formidable market whose purchasing needs can now be satisfied at a regional level at the new laboratory suppliers feature - Southern Laboratory 2004 - at the exhibition Southern Manufacturing next year.
The feature will make the ideal forum to develop new business opportunities.
The visitor profile already established for the two co-located shows has a 30% relevant audience - even before the organiser had mounted any targeted marketing campaign.
This year's co-located Southern Manufacturing and Southern Electronics shows attracted some 400 exhibitors and 4400 visitors from across the region.
The scope of exhibits will include analytical instruments, laboratory equipment, pathology supplies and diagnostics, chemical reagents and kits, consumables and disposables, cleanroom technology, furniture, fume cupboards, and safety cabinets.
