Wingpath has released Modsak - a free Modbus diagnostic program, which can be used to investigate problems in an existing system, help with configuring and testing a system, or simulate devices and gateways when developing a new system.
The program supports both serial (RTU or Ascii) and network (TCP) interfaces.
All known extensions of the Modbus protocol for transferring floating-point numbers and large (32 and 64 bit) integers are also supported.
Modsak has an easy-to-use graphical interface, and is highly configurable.
All configuration settings can be saved to and restored from disk files in XML format.
Written in Java, Modsak can be used on any platform that supports Java JRE 1.3 or later, including Microsoft Windows, Unix and Linux.
The full version of the program can be downloaded free of charge from Wingpath's web site (link above).
