Stainless steel, high-pressure stirred cell is suitable for nanofiltration (NF) separations and for reverse osmosis (RO) using aqueous and non-aqueous solvents
MET's latest product offering is the Metcell with crossflow system, which is either available as a complete unit with gas regulator, or as an upgrade for user who already have a Metcell.
Where the Metcell is said to be ideal for initial experimental work on new applications, further development has identified the need for a small-scale cross flow system to enable more tests to be run, in less time, with better translation of data to process-scale membrane elements.
The Metcell crossflow system not only can be set up for dead-end filtration, but it can be converted into a crossflow system with up to six crossflow cells in series.
The MET crossflow cells feature a clamped design to allow quick and easy membrane changeover.
All components of the assembled Metcell crossflow system are pressure rated to a minimum operating pressure of 69bar (1000psig).
Advantages are said to include: choice of crossflow or dead-end filtration, greater flexibility in terms of membrane area per filtration volume now possible, run more tests per experiment, and generate results that provide a better prediction for scaling up.
Rapid product purification and impurity removal.
Rapid product concentration.
Solvent recovery and reuse.
Separations of two soluble products based on molecular weight difference.
Solvent exchanges.
Membrane testing for ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis.
Dedicated, pre-assembled MET gas unit including an isolation valve, vent valve, pressure regulator, pressure relief valve, and pressure gauges to allow safe and simple operation of a high pressure system through connection to a gas cylinder.
Connection port for an HPLC pump, allowing charging of solutions into the Metcell crossflow system without opening the cell, particularly useful when solutes are oxygen/moisture sensitive or when continuous operation is required, eg permeate recycle.
A 35mm wide removable PTFE coated stirrer bar is used to promote excellent mixing down to low liquid volume hold-ups.
Easy to clean and sterilise, allowing it to be used for different experiments in quick succession.
The Metcell with crossflow system, although new to the market, has already generated interest among several major pharmaceutical companies, both in the UK, the USA, and in Europe, says MET.
