Eppendorf has ensured that all its products are certified in conformity with IVD Directive 98/79/EC and the associated EN standards
The directive applies to all clinical laboratories throughout the EU which perform human diagnostics.
IVD products are specified as equipment, solutions and other consumables which are combined to allow specimens from the human body to be examined to provide information about a physiological or pathological state or abnormality, or to monitor therapeutic measures.
By defining a uniform level of quality and reliability for these products across the EU, the IVD Directive provides an important guarantee of maximum reproducibility for experiments and analyses.
As Rowan Maulder, Eppendorf UK general manager, explains: "Many of our liquid handling, centrifugation and sample preparation products are used in clinical diagnostic procedures.
"A high degree of reliability is vitally important when therapeutic interventions will be defined on the basis of an assessment of physiological samples.
"Therefore Eppendorf took the strategic decision to react to the new IVD Directive in good time by ensuring that the relevant products in our catalogue were certified for IVD, and carry the CE symbol, well before the December 2005 deadline."
