Single port device server allows serial to ethernet connections to be created easily, to connect a single peripheral with a software-selectable serial interface
Celsum Technologies introduces the Iolan DS1 single port device server from Perle Systems.
Said to be the most advanced device server on the market, the Iolan DS1 allows serial to ethernet connections to be created with ease.
The Iolan DS1 device servers will connect a single peripheral with a software-selectable serial interface (EIA RS-232/422/485), such as a scanner, printer or digital camera, in a remote site over ethernet to a server situated in a central site.
The interface can be easily selected through the supplied DeviceManager software, effectively eradicating the need for any intervention by the user.
The DS1 is compact, can be wall or desk mounted and has Din rail mount option, making it suitable for industrial as well as commercial and domestic applications.
Perle's limited lifetime warranty is included with every unit, as is protection against electrostatic discharges and power surges in the form of the 15kV ESD protection circuitry.
The Iolan DS1 is fitted with a 25-pin DB25M serial connector and a 10/100 RJ45 socket for the network connection, and will support IPV6, IPV4, TCP/IP, CIDR, ARP, RARP, UDP, UDP Multicast, ICMP, BOOTP, DHCP, TFTP, Telnet, Raw, Reverse Telnet, RCP, and HTTP protocols.
As Celsum Technologies's MD, Roy Carter, says, "The Iolan DS1 is a very welcome addition to our range of instrumentation.
"As well as complementing our process control and strain gauge conditioning products, this device server will be of interest to professional IT workers as well as scientific and engineering staff in laboratories, offices, factories, process and manufacturing plants and, indeed, at home.
"Additionally, by allowing a range of devices to be easily connected over a network, many safety and security issues may be easily, effectively and efficiently resolved".
The Iolan DS1 single port device server is said to be useful for serial to network communication, integrating simplicity with great technical support, and complements the UltraPort USB to serial port adaptors offered by Celsum.
