Single photon sensitive avalanche photodiodes will enable improvements to fluorescence lifetime imaging and single molecule spectroscopy
Micro-Photon-Devices (MPD) of Bolzano, Italy has named PicoQuant of Berlin, Germany to be the sole European distributor of the PDM-series single photon sensitive avalanche photodiodes (Spad) developed and manufactured by MPD.
This strategic partnership combines the leading scientific results in the field of Spads by Sergio Cova and MPD with the outstanding system integration expertise in the field of fluorescence lifetime imaging (Flim) and single molecule spectroscopy (SMS) of PicoQuant and will allow to develop even better systems in future, says PicoQuant.
An extensive evaluation study at PicoQuant has shown that the new PDM modules are very well suited for single photon counting applications including single molecule spectroscopy.
The modules show a timing response similar to multi-channel plate photomultiplier tubes, a high quantum efficiency in the visible range and an excellent timing stability even at extreme high count rates, which is of crucial importance for single molecule spectroscopy and Flim.
Both companies say they will closely cooperate and offer applications such as time-resolved confocal microscopy, fluorescence lifetime measurements and fast timing applications, such as laser pulse characterisation.
