Following the recent launch of the new Nature Clinical Practice journals, Nature Publishing Group (NPG) announces two strategic alliances
First, Nature Clinical Practice Endocrinology and Metabolism has been adopted as an official publication of the International Society of Endocrinology (ISE).
This prestigious 'federation' of the national societies has assessed and endorsed the quality and mission of the journal and will be using its influence with their national society members to grow circulation.
Also, everyone that registers for the ISE's congress will receive a subscription.
This is a key endorsement of the journal by the key opinion leaders in world endocrinology.
Second, Nature Clinical Practice Rheumatology has entered into a partnership with Ciaomed, which has have secured an educational grant from Genentech to provide subscriptions to 3000 rheumatologists in the USA.
The synergies between Ciaomed and Nature Clinical Practice are multi-fold, says NPG, not least the fact that they have in common their editor-in-chief Peter Lipsky and several advisory board members.
Ciaomed (contemporary inflammation, autoimmunity, arthritis, orthopedics and osteoporosis) offers a diverse collection of news and educational programmes providing cutting-edge scientific updates through in-depth interviews, on-location coverage of medical meetings, expert-led panel discussions, and live newscasts.
The Ciaomed content complements the Nature Clinical Practice editorial vision of keeping physicians up to date with the most important research developments in their field and translating the research into patient care.
In addition to the Ciaomed registrants receiving the journal each month, this alliance will include some exciting editorial partnerships including the development of an interactive case study programme and offering enhanced Nature Clinical Practice content on the Ciaomed website.
These alliances are in addition to the recent endorsements of two other Nature Clinical Practice journals - the European School of Oncology (ESO) has officially endorsed Nature Clinical Practice Oncology with the ESO Masterclass alumni now receiving the journal, and International Society of Nephrology (ISN) have adopted Nature Clinical Practice Nephrology as an official publication of the society.
The ISE was established in 1960 to advance the profession and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of endocrinology information exchange at the international level.
Its worldwide membership is currently comprised of 63 national societies; the total number of members from these societies exceeds 35,000 and is steadily growing.
Through its national bodies, ISE reaches to all endocrinologists and associated scientific professionals working in universities, industry, government agencies and practitioners in health care facilities.
The mission of the ISE is to disseminate knowledge of endocrinology, improve training and tackle global endocrine health issues, in part by uniting the activities of its national partners.
Activities involve coordinating and organising international congresses and conferences.
The ISE is also reaching out to developing countries by formulating training programmes with the help of national endocrine societies.
One important goal is the formation of an Endocrine Scholars programme, whereby selected candidates will receive training at mentoring institutions and then return to their own countries to disseminate their knowledge.
ISE also promotes the publication of books, reports and articles related to endocrinology.
