Ren Xu, Malvern Instruments's applications and technical support manager in the Asian region, has been appointed concurrent professor at the East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai
This is one of China's leading universities and has a renowned particle technology centre.
The appointment ceremony took place on Thursday 20 October 2005 and was attended by more than 200 people, including the vice president and senior officials from the university.
As part of the ceremony, Prof Xu gave a seminar on 'Nanoparticle property and characterisation, current status and future'.
Lectures were also given by Prof Ben Chu of Suny (Stony Brook, USA), a leading authority in materials science and light scattering techniques, and Prof Norio Tsubokawa whose department at Niigata University in Japan specialises in the functionalisation of nanomaterials and preparation of smart nanocomposites.
Ren Xu joined Malvern Instruments in 2004 and is a widely respected specialist in the field of particle technology.
He is the author of numerous publications and patents, and a serving member of ISO and ASTM standards committees.
Ren Xu's appointment as concurrent professor will allow researchers and students access to his extensive academic and commercial experience, and will further strengthen Malvern's links with world class academic research.
