HVAC control peripherals specialist Sontay has supplied panel front modules from its innovative PP range for the recent extension of Oxford University's Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine
A new extension has recently been added to the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, part of the John Radcliffe Hospital campus, including a new HVAC plant room at roof level with new laboratories and offices on the floors below.
The PP range of Sontay products were installed as part of the remote monitoring and control panels installed to serve the category three laboratory suite.
"The PP range gives us a more cost effective approach to normal panel front construction and maintenance methods" says Mark Carmody of Shellau Contracts .
"Another notable advantage is the smaller footprint required to house multiple sections of lamps and switches.
"Sontay supports the product it provides with competitive pricing and excellent customer service".
Featuring a variety of design innovations, Sontay's PP modules are available to provide a compact, manufactured and fully functional solution for all panel types.
At the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, Shellau Contracts has used a combination of modules from the Sontay range to achieve a high quality panel installation.
Using the Sontay PP modules has also allowed Shellau Contracts to reduce its time and costs in assembling the motor control centres and achieve more reliable lamp indicator operation.
The module types used at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine incorporate high quality, plug-in ribbon cable connection instead of the costly and bulky wiring looms usually required to connect to the back of panel devices.
This way, extra low voltage (24Vac) ribbon cable with IDC connector is used to link each panel front module to a small DIN rail-mounting power unit located within the control centre enclosure.
The indicator type modules feature high intensity, block LEDs to offer a cheaper, more reliable and longer life alternative to conventional panel filament lamps.
A versatile choice of red, green or amber LEDs provide improved alarm annunciation, with the option of flashing, selected indicators.
To simplify panel wiring still further, Shellau Contracts used the integral lamp test feature available as standard with all Sontay indicator modules.
Instead of the traditional trafolite labelling approach, LEDs can be fitted with a transparent laser-printed label superimposed to identify the plant items controlled and held in place by a clear plastic window and specially shaped bezel.
This simple, cost-effective method eliminates the need for expensive label engraving, offering panel builders the flexibility to carry out labelling in-house while ensuring that label correction itself is much easier to accomplish, if required.
Oxford University's Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine is situated on the John Radcliffe Hospital campus which is part of the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust.
Norstead Engineering was the mechanical and electrical contractor for the extension build and Shellau Contracts was the controls specialist.
The PP range is part of Sontay's comprehensive control peripherals offering to the UK building services market.
Sontay says its products are renowned for their accuracy, reliability and discrete appearance and are used by many of the market leaders in the worldwide building controls industry.
Its products and controls help improve building management system performance, reduce energy and maintenance costs and increase occupant comfort levels.
