USA Food and Beverage industries appreciate YSI biochemistry analysers

YSI Life Science have correlated feedback from users of their biochemical analysis instruments in the food and beverage industries to help illustrate the benefits manufactures find when using their unique technology.
The food and beverage industries were early adopters of YSI biochemistry analysers. For over twenty years a diverse collection of companies, including wine producers, cereal manufacturers and candy makers have applied YSI Biosensor technology.
From raw material assessment to product quality control and waste management, they have all benefited from YSI instrument’s reliability, accuracy, low maintenance and running costs, speed or minimal sample preparation time. In order to appreciate how new customers might benefit too, YSI have correlated feedback from their happy USA-based clients.
Cost saving was of course very important to YSI customers. Individual pet food and candy manufacturers were both reliant on outside laboratories for testing analytes such as dextrose, costing between $45-75 a test. Not only did this sometimes curtail the number of tests they could run, but also sometimes the delays were so long that they practically made the results worthless, especially for quality control. Even when testing was carried out ‘in house’, one drinks manufacturer, who had been using HPLC, found the costs of testing prohibitive. A YSI analyser was not only cheaper to use, even a non-technical person could operate it.
Speed of operation was highlighted by manufacturers such as cereal companies interested in analytes such as sucrose and glucose, who found that their quality control was improved dramatically, allowing inferior products to be caught before distribution.
The accuracy of the YSI analysers was important for many manufactures. One producer of broth and food bases was particularly pleased with the added confidence they enjoyed when keeping MSG seasoning within specified levels.
Other companies, such as one producer of French fries, were able to take advantage of the YSI analyser’s accuracy at different stages of their operation. They use their instrument for assessing the maturity of potatoes in storage by analysing sucrose and dextrose and then also final test of dextrose prior to frying to ensure optimum quality.
