YSI (UK) has exhibited the Mindray BS-120 chemistry analyser for smaller labs or accident and emergency (AandE) wards and veterinary clinics at Focus 2010 in Glasgow and Biomedica in Dublin.
The BS-120 is specially designed for smaller labs or as a back-up/satellite analyser for AandE wards and veterinary clinics.
A typical workload in the smaller laboratory is approximately 180 tests per day with samples usually coming one by one.
The BS-120 will run up to 100 tests per hour and up to 300 tests per hour using an optional ISE module, which also offers the benefit of measuring additional chemistries such as K+, Na+, Cr and Li+.
The analyser's hardware and software design is said to make it easy to learn and use.
Running costs are kept low with the use of low-cost disposable cuvettes and a minimum reaction volume required as low as 180ul.
Running the analysis is simple, according to YSI (UK).
After collecting, labelling and centrifuging the samples, they are positioned in the tray and then the patient information is entered in the software.
The screen shows dynamic display of running status while analysing.
The software also supports multi virtual trays, which means while running the first batch of samples, the position information of the second tray can be added.
Stat exams can be carried out immediately without interrupting the obtained data or undergoing tests.
BS-120 has a flexible sample/reagent tray, which fits into a refrigerated compartment and is easily removed, reloaded or split between sample and reagent parts.
The Mindray BS-120 has built-in safety features including vertical collision protection; liquid level detection; depth adjustments for aspirating and dispensing and inner and outer wash of the probes; independent mixing stirrer; auto washing of the stirrer between actions; and a special carryover-avoiding program.
An optional handheld barcode reader allows users to automatically recognise samples and reagents, reducing human error even further.
