Acolyte has formed a distribution partnership with Cosmo Bio of Japan for its life science products including the Baclite Rapitect enumeration assay range
Cosmo Bio is a leading supplier of life science products to laboratories, research institutes, life-science education and testing organisations throughout Japan.
The BacLite range currently includes BacLite Rapitect gram negative (GN) for the rapid detection and enumeration of gram negative bacterial cells and BacLite Rapitect Mammalian (M) for the rapid enumeration of mammalian cells.
The BacLite Rapitect assay range uses adenylate kinase (AK) as a highly sensitive marker of viable cells.
Previous research has demonstrated that AK significantly enhances the sensitivity of cell enumeration and acts as a more reliable reporter of viable cells than ATP bioluminescence.
Unlike ATP, AK is present at relatively constant levels in viable cells and can be used to count cells at very low levels due to the ADP to ATP amplification process.
This AK rapid technology is up to 100 times more sensitive than standard ATP bioluminescence and up to one million times more sensitive than optical measurements.
AK rapid was originally developed by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, an agency of the UK Ministry of Defence.
Acolyte has exclusive licenses to the technology for commercial exploitation in the fields of clinical diagnostics, clinical hygiene monitoring, veterinary practice and life sciences research.
Applications for the BacLite Rapitect gram negative (GN) assay include bacterial growth and inhibition studies, anti-microbial research and a range of other microbiological, bio-processing and pharmacological applications.
The BacLite Rapitect mammalian (M) assay can be used in drug discovery, bioengineering, bio-processing and genetic research as well as many areas of academic and institution based research.
Other BacLite Rapitect products will involve kits for gram positive bacterial cells, plant cells, fungal cells and yeast cells.
