Although Mott products have been used in many aerospace applications, the Cassini mission represents a benchmark for both distance and reliability for Mott products
Mott provided porous metal flow controllers to Jet Propulsion Labs (JPL) for installation into the Cassini orbiter.
These flow controllers have successfully assisted in keeping the Cassini on course by controlling the flow of compressed hydrazine drawn through by attitude jets.
Although Mott products have been used in many aerospace applications, the Cassini mission represents a benchmark for both distance and reliability for Mott products.
Since the spacecraft was built and launched in 1997, the porous metal flow controllers have performed flawlessly over a distance of 2.2 billion miles through interplanetary space.
Roger Klene, Mott's president and CEO, noted that the precision of Mott's flow control technology on the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft exemplifies the value of porous metal's use in extreme operating environments.
"Everyone at Mott is proud to be associated with the Cassini-Huygens project, and congratulate those who have worked so hard to make it such a successful mission".
Mott designs and manufactures products in porous metal that are used in filtration, flow control, fluidisation, sound attenuation, sparging, pressure equalization and a wide variety of others.
Engineers prefer Mott's porous metal over other types of media because it's specifically designed to perform and withstand environments with extreme operating conditions, demanding efficiencies, and have exacting flow specifications, says the company.
Mott's porous metal products and filters provide efficient solutions to inefficient processes in a wide variety of industries including chemical processing, semiconductor, instrumentation, food and beverage, refinery and petrochemical processing, as well as aerospace, pharmaceutical and biomedical.
