ProSim and Dechema, the German society for chemical engineering and biotechnology, announce that Simulis Thermodynamics and Dechema data preparation package are now seamlessly interfaced
Dechema's data preparation package is a software designed for the regression of thermo-physical property models.
Besides selection and graphical display of data sets, it permits the regression of model parameters as well as the comparison of models.
ProSim's Simulis Thermodynamics is a software component for computing thermo-physical properties and phase equilibria on pure components and mixtures.
It provides access to a large number of thermo-physical properties calculations functions that can be integrated in any package intended for wider fields of application.
The coupling of the Data Preparation Package and Simulis Thermodynamics provides engineers with a convenient and flexible environment to make the most of the Detherm database, the world largest factual database for raw thermo-physical property data (about 25 000 pure compounds and 100 000 mixtures covered), distributed by Dechema.
"Accurate thermo-physical properties modeling is a critical step for any design or optimization project.
"With this package, users will be well equipped with consistent, reliable and verified properties to support their project" says Stephane Dechelotte, CEO of ProSim.
The Data Preparation Package enables the user to identify and generate all required parameters of both pure component and mixture thermodynamic models and also to run comparisons between different models.
It is designed to work with generic thermodynamics packages via an open interface and does not have an in-built thermodynamic package.
With this new development, the user will be able to use the models from Simulis Thermodynamics, seamlessly integrated within the Data Preparation Package environment.
The user will also find his workflow significantly improved.
With traditional thermodynamic packages, he first needs to select the components and the models, save the problem in a specific file, import the problem in Data Preparation Package to run optimisation and regression and then export the results in another file which format depends on the simulator used in exploitation of results.
As Simulis Thermodynamics is embedded, he now remains within the same environment from the selection of the components to the complete identification of the model.
From the results provided by Data Preparation Package, the engineer can create Cape-Open Property Packages that include all thermodynamic elements required (pure components properties, models, interaction coefficients_).
These Property Packages can be used in any third party Cape-Open compliant modeling environment such as AspenPlus, HTRI, gProms for further calculations.
They can also be used through Simulis Thermodynamics in MS Excel, Matlab or any software which does not include rigorous thermodynamic calculation routines.
Even though engineers work on different modeling tools, the Property package ensures that they use consistent data.
Last but not least, the link between Data Preparation Package and Simulis Thermodynamics is a dynamic one, allowing technical updates from any of the packages to be quickly integrated, without further development by both parties.
"We are very enthusiastic with the results of this collaboration" says Richard Sass, director of Dechema's information systems and databases department, "we expect our customers will find much value in this innovation in terms of convenience and flexibility, but also in regards to expertise management issues".
ProSim and Dechema have a long term relationship and this project materializes the collaboration between two complementary parties that stand as references in their respective fields: thermodynamic calculation software and raw thermophysical properties.
