Multi-million refurb for Parker Bioscience UK site
16 May 2018
Parker Bioscience’s UK site in Birtley is set for a multi-million dollar phased investment programme to make the premises “one of the most modern manufacturing sites for integrated bioprocessing solutions" in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
General manager Mike Brailsford said: “This investment demonstrates the strength of Parker Bioscience’s commitment to its European client base and we are looking forward to witnessing the further development of the Birtley site over the year.
“Increased capacity will help us to offer larger scale services to biopharmaceutical manufacturers in Europe and across the globe, and is a major milestone in the division’s growth.”
In 2017, it was announced that the facility would start the manufacture of the company’s automated bioprocessing systems, complementing existing production at its sister site in California.

One year previously, the division opened a new ISO Class 7 clean room at the facility, producing single-use manifolds incorporating tubing, bioprocess containers, filters, sensors and other components for use in the bioprocessing industry.
Increased investment is intended to boost servicing for the European biopharmaceutical markets by shortening the supply chain and making it easier for manufacturers to access automated systems and manifolds, and access specialist technical support.
Parker Bioscience - which is a division of leading diversified manufacturer of motion and control technologies and systems Parker Hannifin - designs, supplies and delivers whole systems for upstream and downstream pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
The division, previously Parker domnick hunter, also provides filtration solutions for the global food and beverage industry.
