In 2019 Meritics Ltd, who are the UK distributor for Fluid Imaging products will be unveiling the FlowCam+LO - a patented image analyser that combines Flow Imaging alongside light obscuration analysis.
Light obscuration (LO), also known as Single Particle Optical Sensing, is a high-resolution optical analysis technique capable of detecting a percentage of outliers, which can also be used to obtain an overall size distribution.
LO is now the compendial method for the analysis of subvisible particles, and proteinaceous particles, in therapeutic protein products, as required by the European Pharmacopoeia as well as the US and Japanese Pharmacopoeia.
Although other properties of particulate samples, beyond concentration and size, are not yet required for therapeutic protein products, further morphological data can be an excellent measure of quality and efficacy.
This then provides information on immunogenicity and helps highlight how stresses such as agitation, temperature change, or light exposure, may affect function during product and packaging.
The FlowCam+LO, by providing LO data as well as individual particle images and 40+ morphological measurements from the simultaneous FIM analysis, will produce unrivalled characterisations of drug particulates. And the FlowCam+LO will achieve these definitive results with just a single run and a single sample.
