Fluid Imaging’s award-winning FlowCam Nano imaging particle analysis system has been launched in the UK by Meritics.
The instrument features a patented oil immersion, flow imaging microscope paired with a 40x objective and image analysis software to deliver high-resolution images of nanoparticles in liquid samples – enabling researchers and developers to image and characterise nanoparticles in real-time.
Image analysis software, VisualSpreadsheet, provides highly resolved images from 300nm and to 10+ µm with 40x objective with 50 µm flowcell.
As well as distinguishing between aggregates and single particles measuring the same size, verifying particle size and uniformity, Flow Cam enables users to obtain relative quantifications of intrinsic, extrinsic, and inherent particles in parenteral drugs, for example.
Meritics founder and Managing Director, Brian Miller said: “At Meritics we are truly passionate about particle characterisation. These latest advances are transformational across a range of applications in biopharma and pharmaceutical industries – biologics, protein therapeutics, nanomedicines, and exosomes – and will start to change the way that we live and work.
We know, for instance, that single-use plastic devices used for drug delivery bring an increased risk in terms of shedding microparticulates. We also know that traditional particle analysers based on light obscuration, dynamic light scatter, Brownian motion or Coulter Principle are simply unable to image these particles. The FlowCam Nano reveals protein agglomerates, silicone oil droplets, glass shards and other opaque, transparent and translucent sub-visible particles with the high-resolution imagery needed for identification.
“Research centres across every industry are being tasked with delivering more accurate results, faster and more cost effectively than ever before. By deploying the most recent technology, it is now possible to gain real advantage in the market by reducing development and industrialisation lead times – whilst also guaranteeing accuracy, reliability and quality – as the latest equipment reduces complexity and provides greater clarity than ever before.”
As well as the FlowCam Nano, Meritics is also launching the FlowCam 8000 to the UK market. Engineered for protein therapeutics, the FlowCam 8000 is suitable for the characterisation of sub-visible particles in protein therapeutics, microencapsulation formulation and quality control, the characterisation of dry active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), fillers and excipients and the characterisation of dry and rehydrated lyophilised particulates.
