UK-based Alpha Laboratories Ltd, one of the fastest-growing diagnostics companies in the UK and Ireland, has been acquired by Diploma PLC, a FTSE 100 group specialising in value-added technical products and services.
The deal strengthens Diploma’s Life Sciences division, which provides essential diagnostic and laboratory solutions through a decentralised, customer-focused model.
A Strong Strategic Fit
Founded in 1975, Alpha Laboratories has built a strong reputation for its specialist diagnostic solutions and laboratory consumables, with market-leading positions in bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel disease screening. The acquisition aligns closely with Diploma’s strategy of investing in innovative, high-quality life sciences businesses.
“Our extensive range of value-added diagnostic solutions make us an excellent fit with Diploma PLC,” said Rob Vint, Managing Director of Alpha Laboratories. “We share an ethos: a passion for sustainability, proven ESG credentials, and a commitment to scientific excellence. Joining Diploma allows us to remain agile and responsive while benefiting from the added strength of a listed public company.”
Continuity for Customers
Alpha Laboratories confirmed that it will continue to operate under its existing brand, from its current headquarters, with no changes to its products, suppliers, employees, or leadership team. Customers can expect continuity of service, with the additional backing of Diploma’s resources and infrastructure.
Driving Growth in Life Sciences
The acquisition highlights Diploma’s commitment to expanding its life sciences portfolio while supporting long-term growth across diagnostics and laboratory solutions.
“Alpha’s expertise and strong regional footprint in the UK and Ireland makes it a natural fit within our Life Sciences division,” a Diploma spokesperson said. “Together, we can accelerate innovation and deliver even greater value to healthcare providers and laboratories.”
