The new EchoTherm HS70 digital stirring hot plate combines programmable heating and mixing with a protective gas purge system, offering laboratories improved equipment durability, precise temperature control and repeatable automated processes.
Torrey Pines Scientific has introduced its new EchoTherm HS70 range of corrosion-resistant digital stirring hot plates, designed for laboratories requiring accurate heating, controlled stirring and reliable operation in potentially corrosive environments.
A key feature of the HS70 is its integrated gas purge system, which allows laboratory air or another suitable gas to be introduced into the instrument's chassis. This creates positive internal pressure, preventing corrosive gases from entering through openings and helping protect sensitive electronic components.
The hot plate offers both manual and fully programmable operation. Users can create and store up to ten individual programmes, each containing ten steps with independently defined temperatures, stirring speeds, heating rates and operating times. Once activated, these sequences run automatically, improving consistency and reducing the need for operator intervention.
An eight-inch solid ceramic heating surface provides chemical resistance and supports temperatures up to 450°C, adjustable in 1°C increments. PID temperature regulation and platinum RTD measurement technology enable precise control, with an optional probe arrangement allowing direct monitoring of solution temperatures.
The integrated magnetic stirrer accommodates up to two litres of aqueous solution, operating at speeds between 100 and 1,500 rpm. Additional functionality includes programmable temperature ramping, automatic shut-off and a timer capable of operating for almost 100 hours.
For laboratories requiring data recording or external control, the HS70 incorporates an RS232 interface for computer connectivity. Programme settings and calibration information are retained in non-volatile CMOS memory without batteries.
Supplied with a PTFE temperature probe and a 12-month warranty, the EchoTherm HS70 is designed for applications where chemical resistance, repeatability and automated temperature control are important considerations.
The new units are stated to comply with ETL, CSA and CE requirements.
