Trevor Baylis, inventor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist of wind-up radio fame, will present the IAC-sponsored young persons award for innovation in acoustical engineering in October 2007
Baylis was awarded the presidential gold medal of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers for services to engineering in 1998 and is an active champion of British inventiveness and promoter of the protection of intellectual property.
He will speak briefly on this subject at the award dinner.
The award is a bid to recognise the contribution of British acoustical engineers to industry.
Colin English, president of the Institute of Acoustics, said: "We are delighted that Trevor Baylis has accepted our invitation to preside at the award giving dinner.
"His reputation goes before him as a talented engineer and an ambassador for British inventiveness.
"A lively speaker, I'm sure conference dinner attendees are in for an enjoyable occasion".
The award, from the Institute of Acoustics, is open for entries until 30 March 2007.
Entrants are considered 'young' if they have worked for fewer than five years in the industry.
The institute strongly encourages entries if a recent project fits the bill.
