John O'Brien has left Point Technologies to found a consulting firm dedicated to helping medical device companies establish themselves in Costa Rica and other offshore markets
O'Brien and his son, Kirk, sold Point Technologies in 2005 to AMI Holdings, which was subsequently sold to Angiotech Pharmaceuticals.
The past year has been a transition from a privately held company to a division of a large, publicly traded pharmamed company.
"My new firm, O'Brien Consulting, will be devoted to helping medical device and high tech companies set up operations in Costa Rica, Ireland, Chile and other attractive offshoring sites.
"The Point Technologies experience has been wonderful.
"It afforded me the opportunity to build a great brand, set up Point Tech in Costa Rica and meet hundreds of great customers and suppliers.
"I will treasure the experience" he said.
Prior to joining Point Technologies, O'Brien was EVP and chief operating officer at Mapsco , a regional map and street guide publishing and retail company headquartered in Dallas.
Before Mapsco, O'Brien spent many years in general and marketing management in the photo industry, including 20 years in international management with Eastman Kodak.
