Bookham, a provider of optical components, modules and subsystems, will unveil an expanded portfolio of high power laser diode products at Photonics West, later this month
Bookham's launch includes a range of new higher performance laser diodes designed for industrial applications, and a number of devices that are addressing medical and analytical applications.
In partnership with several of its customers, Bookham will be demonstrating, for the first time, end applications of its products.
Demonstrations include:.
Direct systems using 9xxnm laser diode bars for welding, marking, soldering, thermal processing and medical applications;.
Fibre lasers and pump blocks using 9xxnm laser diode single emitters for material processing, fibre laser pumping, micromachining and medical applications;.
Frequency conversion visible lasers using 9xxnm single mode diodes for display applications and biomedical instrumentation.
"These demonstrations will show visitors to Photonics West the range of applications enabled by the Bookham portfolio and how our customers are benefiting from these cutting-edge, high power devices," said Berthold Schmidt, director of product marketing for high power lasers at Bookham.
"Achieving lower $/W is key to our customers' success in the competitive market for fibre, disk, Nd:Yag and direct diode lasers," added Schmidt.
"By providing more laser diode pump power and brightness, our expanded product portfolio meets this customer need, reinforces our leadership in providing innovative high performance laser diode products and allows us to target the vast medical and analytical markets".
Among the new product highlights are:.
A range of higher power laser diodes for the pumping of next generation fibre and disk lasers, and for direct applications.
These include an ultra-high power 8W 940nm single emitter multimode module, a higher power integrated pump block that uses several pump diodes, and higher power 60W 20% and 80W 30% fill factor bars on a passive cooler for collimation and fiber coupling requirements.
In addition, all 9xxnm bar products now feature an improved lateral farfield boosting the brightness by up to 30% at a conversion efficiency of more than 60%.
808nm single emitter multimode devices and 10xxnm laser diode bar products for the medical and analytical markets.
For the single emitters, pigtailed modules, and now also C-mount versions, are available.
The 10xxnm laser diode bars, which are designed for the direct replacement of Nd:YAG lasers, can also be used to scale the power of wavelength multiplexed diode systems.
Bookham will also be showing products from its display technology portfolio, including optical filters and the ZoroLight LED multiplexer module, which can be used to replace traditional lamps in bio-medical instrumentation illumination.
New Focus, a division of Bookham, will be launching its new 2007 Product Guide and showing a range of new products and OEM subsystem solutions.
The new Bookham VCSELs portfolio will also be shown for the first time at the exhibition; the portfolio is targeted at a range of datacom, sensing and measurement markets.
