Lancer 1400 series lab glassware washers and dryers have been installed at the new Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute opened by Queen Elizabeth this month.
The CRI aims to bring the scientific strengths of Cambridge to bear on practical questions of cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention and will be the focus for the application of high quality research under one umbrella.
Directly funded by Cancer Research UK and led by Professors Bruce Ponder and Fiona Watt, the new institute has several groups each investigating different research aspects and all with the fundamental principle of linking the laboratory to the clinic thereby hastening the development of new treatments to benefit cancer patients.
The funding provides each appointed group leader with fully equipped laboratory space and consumables and long term salary funding for 3-6 staff and other running costs and support including the core facilities.
Cleaning the laboratory glassware for re-use takes place in a centralised facility of three large 1400 washers and two matching dryers from Lancer which together handle the throughput volume.
In addition there are several support racks and baskets to give flexible options for glassware types and sizes.
As always it is vital that results of important research are not influenced by dirty glassware and inefficient washing and decontaminating processes.
