Recently introduced by Porvair Sciences, the MiniSeal is an affordable semi-automated thermal sealer developed for laboratories sealing small to medium batches of microplates
Faced with the need to securely seal pre-made 96-well polystyrene plates configured with reagents for the detection of a variety of noxious and hazardous algae, a leading US not-for-profit marine laboratory required a productive plate sealer that was both easy to use and efficient.
Using a MiniSeal, the marine laboratory has established a programme of semi-automated protocols that allows them to securely store pre-made plates and/or ship them to other laboratories around the world.
A spokesperson for the laboratory, said "The MiniSeal has proven itself as a reliable and productive sealing tool for maintaining the integrity of our specialist plates while in storage and transport.
"We have found it very useful that the MiniSeal does not require a compressed air source or a dedicated compressor, we just plug it into a single electrical outlet to operate.
"The ability to pre-set sealing pressures on the MiniSeal has enabled us to produce highly reproducible plate seals time after time".
The MiniSeal offers researchers a reliable and productive sealing tool for maintaining the integrity of their samples while in storage.
The versatile device is capable of producing an accurate and tight seal on any standard, deep well or PCR microplate from 3 to 62mm in height.
Offering adjustable temperature heat-sealing from 50C up to 200C, the MiniSeal is able to operate optimally with most foil and film seals.
To complement its ease of use and high quality plate sealing the MiniSeal ensures operator safety with its unique twin-button operation.
