A stainless steel friction table option for use with the versatile FTPlus friction tester is now available from Lloyd Instruments
The new accessory has been introduced to determine the static and kinetic coefficients of friction of plastic film and paper when sliding over stainless steel under controlled test conditions, instead of film against film using the standard friction table.
These measurements are important to ensure that the film does not slip when moving at high speed over metal rollers.
The sample film or paper is drawn across the stainless steel test bed and the force required to overcome the frictional resistance between the two surfaces is measured.
The static coefficient of friction is determined by the force required to overcome the initial resistance between the two surfaces.
The kinetic coefficient of friction is determined from the subsequent force when continuously sliding at a constant rate.
The FTPlus conforms to the requirements of the key ASTM D1894, ISO 8295 and TAPPI T549 friction testing standards and has extensive applications in the packaging and printing industries.
A full set of accessories is available to achieve the ASTM, ISO and TAPPI requirements.
A further seven tests are available for user custom configuration.
The statistics for each type of test are automatically calculated including static coefficient of friction, kinetic coefficient of friction, peak load and average load.
User defined tests can be configured in terms of final movement limits, relative and absolute calculation limits, sled weights and dimensions.
Up to 600 samples can be stored in any of the test set-ups.
Although the FTPlus is a fully self-contained instrument, an RS232 is provided to allow computer control using the latest NEXYGENPlus material test and data analysis software so that the tester can operate as a fully functional materials testing system.
