GenScript has added a shotgun library service platform to its collection of molecular genetics services
Shotgun libraries are one way of generating DNA sequences and of identifying specific genes from cloned DNA fragments in vectors such as BACs, PACs, cosmids, and fosmids.
Clones within the shotgun libraries can be tailored to carry inserts within a narrow size range.
"I think that our particular advantage over our competitors is the low cost and the short delivery time ", says Dr Mark Yang, the director of GenScript's gene department.
"Our services are 25 percent less expensive and 15 percent faster in delivery than our competitors.
"In addition, we offer a comprehensive framework and a full spectrum of up- and down-stream services".
Although shotgun libraries have been around for many years, changes in the underlying technology now allow it to be performed more quickly and at less expense.
In addition, GenScript maintains that the company's successful track record with so-called 'unclonable' stretches of DNA - namely GC-rich areas, areas with problematic secondary structures, high-repeat areas, and hairpins - will serve shotgun library clients well.
GenScript plans to offer this service on a large scale.
The interested parties are expected to be scientists studying genetics, genomics, or any other branch of molecular biology that requires the examination and discovery of detailed genetic information or of target genes.
GenScript includes a variety of optional services, including publication-ready DNA sequences (facilitated by ABI Prism 3730xlsequencers), electropherograms of each run, additional clones, subclones, plasmid DNA, and internal primers.
GenScript's final delivery package will include transformed cells or frozen subclones arrayed on 96-well plates, ready to prep and sequence.
