The PolarGel-M column is capable of operation in a wide range of solvents and solvent combinations, greatly enhancing the ability to analyse polar polymers that aren't necessarily water soluble
Polymer Laboratories has launched a new medium polarity gel permeation chromatography/size exclusion chromatography (GPC/SEC) column for use in polar solvents such as dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulfoxide and also solvent combinations such as tetrahydrofuran with water.
These eluents are useful in GPC/SEC when analysing highly polar materials which are difficult to analyse in traditional SEC solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran.
Examples of these materials include polar resins, modified polysaccharides and similar complex polar polymers.
With these materials, the presence of highly polar groups can lead to non-specific interactions and a secondary separation mechanism when using polar solvents and traditional non-polar styrene/divinylbenzene columns, and additives are normally required to reduce these interactions.
The new PolarGel-M column has a medium polarity surface and high mechanical stability.
In the form of a 'mixed bed' column, this PolarGel-M column has a linear calibration curve and wide operating range for maximum applicability.
