Oxoid presented the winners of the 2006/2007 Oxoid Food Awards with their prizes at a celebratory dinner held recently at the Billesley Manor Hotel near Stratford-upon-Avon, in the UK.
The four winning teams in the Oxoid Food Safety Team of the Year category were present to receive their awards from Ali Ball, director of marketing, and members of the judging panel.
The first prize cheque for £1000, plus a commemorative trophy, was presented to Young's Seafood , Grimsby, UK.
Framed certificates were presented to runners-up, Westbury Dairies , Westbury, Wiltshire, UK, as well as to Cadbury Trebor Bassett, Chirk, UK, for third place, and Westward Laboratories, Callington, Cornwall, UK, highly commended.
The first prize winner of 2006/2007 Oxoid Young Food Microbiologist of the Year Award, Jessica Roberts, travelled to the event from Christchurch, New Zealand where she is laboratory manager for Tegel Foods .
Jessica's prize comprises a trip to the 2008 International Association of Food Protection Meeting in Columbus, Ohio, USA, plus £1000 and a commemorative trophy.
Runner up, Saadia Maqsood, microbiologist at Qarshi Research International, Hattar, Pakistan received her framed award certificate locally in Pakistan, while Stacey Ryder, microbiologist at Long Clawson Dairy , Melton Mowbray, England received her certificate at the awards dinner.
"We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of the winners and to present them with their awards" said Fiona Macrae, awards manager at Oxoid.
"The international nature of this competition means that we receive entries from microbiologists and food safety teams who are making a real difference to the worldwide standards of food and beverage hygiene", she continued.
"It is reassuring for us all to know that there are so many who are dedicated to ensuring that our food is safe to eat".
