The Varian 300-MS is designed for use in high-throughput, routine laboratories and is available as a triple-quadrupole MS or a single-quadrupole MS that can later be upgraded to a triple-quadrupole
Varian has announced the release of its newest quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS) for gas chromatography (GC).
Mass spectrometry is a highly selective and sensitive technique used to identify and quantify compounds, even in the most difficult-to-analyse samples.
The information-rich results produced by GC/MS are particularly critical for environmental, toxicology, petrochemical and pharmaceutical laboratories.
Environmental scientists, for example, use GC/MS to detect contaminants in drinking water, waste-water, and soil.
MS/MS, or tandem mass spectrometry, available from the triple quadrupole option, is used to identify, confirm and quantify those contaminants.
The 300-MS is designed to enhance productivity.
It is capable of screening or quantifying more than 150 compounds in a single sample run.
A choice of sample introduction and ionisation methods addresses the complete range of sample types encountered in routine GC/MS laboratory.
Both CI (chemical ionisation) and EI (electron ionisation) are available for sensitive detection and structural confirmation.
The 300-MS is controlled by MS Workstation which automatically handles quantitation and data review for the large volume of samples and compounds analysed in a high-throughput laboratory.
In a addition to the 300-MS,Varian offers a complete GC/MS solution to its customers, including: a choice of autosamplers, Varian's MS Workstation (v6.9) software, industry standard gas chromatographs, and a comprehensive line of chromatography columns including FactorFour low bleed GC columns.
"The 300-MS complements our existing line of quadrupole mass spectrometers and consumables to offer our customers more choices to match their specific requirements" said Martin O'Donoghue, senior vice president of scientific instruments, Varian.
"We've made reliable research grade performance and capability available to cost-conscious laboratories".
The Varian 300-MS is currently available for order and delivery.
It is the latest introduction in the company's line of mass spectrometry instruments, which includes single and triple quadrupole, ion trap (LC and GC) and Fourier transform (FT) MS systems.
