The new anion exchanger columns - the Metrosep A Supp 15 and A Supp 16 - have been developed by Metrohm to combine mechanical and chemical efficiency
These column types are ideally suited for both standard applications and demanding separation problems.
A unique new development - the iColumns (intelligent columns) - makes its arrival in the ion chromatography (IC) area.
Together with the new 850 IC Professional instrument family and the MagIC Net software, Metrohm ensures gapless traceability and GLP monitoring.
The iColumns allow for comfortable and transparent operation, simultaneously offering the user a lot of advantages.
New columns with an outstanding selectivity.
Columns on the basis of cross-linked styrene/divinylbenzene (St/DVB) copolymers are characterised by an excellent pH resistance, thus tolerating any imaginable eluent.
Among the commercially available anion exchange columns, the Metrosep A Supp 15 and 16 stand out due to their excellent selectivity, providing a good separation.
To extend the application range of these columns, the Metrosep A Supp 16 is available in a high-capacity version, while the Metrosep A Supp 15 was developed as a low-capacity alternative.
The Metrosep A Supp 15 can be obtained in four different lengths.
Besides the specific separation problem a gapless documentation and monitoring system is imperative in daily laboratory routine.
With the market launch of the new 850 IC Professional and MagIC Net in combination with the icolumns presented here, Metrohm offers a fully documented audit trail.
The new iColumns work in a transparent way and ensure gapless traceability and GLP monitoring of all relevant data.
The Metrosep A Supp 15 is a low-capacity anion exchange column designed for the rapid and complete separation of common anions.
It is available in four different lengths: 50, 100, 150 and 250mm.
New synthesis techniques take advantage of the robustness of surface-functionalised St/DVB copolymers and the high separation efficiencies of agglomerated materials.
Ion-exchange groups are covalently bound to the support material of the column.
Due to the special design of the carrier material, the morphology results in low diffusion rates, which translates into high separation efficiencies and low asymmetries.
Accordingly, this column type allows for the efficient separation of glycolate, formate and acetate.
Additionally, the determination of the standard anions can be achieved in only eight minutes.
A further application of these columns is the trace analysis of ultrapure acids in the semiconductor industry.
Sugar acids and maltose derivatives can be separated with the sodium hydroxide eluent applying amperometric detection.
The high-capacity Metrosep A Supp 16 is applied to complex analytical tasks, eg, highly loaded and/or aggressive matrices.
It offers an excellent resolution and resolves even the most demanding separation problems.
Total perfection.
The perfect combination comprises the MagIC Net software, the iColumn and the new 850 IC professional.
The small chip built into the column holder at the head of the column contains column-specific data such as optimal flow rate, pressure limits or the correct type of precolumn.
Furthermore, the column knows how many hours it has been in operation and how many samples it has already analysed.
This guarantees a complete column monitoring.
System validation becomes significantly easier.
The chip in the column head contains data permanently linked with the column (standard flow, standard eluent etc) as well as freely definable (column name and comments) and operational data.
Just a single mouse click is sufficient to include the information in the method to be used.
This means that it is no longer necessary to enter all this data in the method.
In addition, the chip can store all GLP-relevant data for periodical validations.
By storing all this information, complete traceability is guaranteed, irrespective of the IC system in which the column is operated.
iColumns offer innumerable advantages and, above all, close the traceability gap in the analytical process.
Metrohm's iColumns are thus ideally suited for complete GLP monitoring.
