The Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) on STN International now also covers Asian patent data and will be presented at Online Information in London, Olympia, 2-4 December 2008, stand 512.
The Thomson Reuters World IP Today Report (04/07) on Global Patent Activity from 1997-2006 states that patenting activities in China have increased by 470 per cent.
When carrying out patent research, it is critical to be able to access patent applications, granted patents and utility models from these countries.
FIZ Karlsruhe and its partner, the Scientific business of Thomson Reuters, provides content to meet these needs.
The Derwent World Patents Index files on STN International (WPIDS, WPINDEX, WPIX, WPIFV) now include all the claims for Chinese and Korean patent applications and utility models, plus the first claim for Japanese applications and utility models, all in English language.
Original content from these authorities is first published in DWPI First View (WPIFV) within days of publication.
The bibliographic content and patent claims, some of which are machine translated, are then thoroughly reviewed by patent information specialists at Thomson Reuters and enhanced DWPI titles and abstracts are prepared clearly outlining the novelty of the invention.
The records are indexed with a proprietary classification system and the bibliographic metadata is corrected where necessary to eliminate errors found in the original patents.
Once this is completed, the records are loaded into DWPI and the entry in DWPI First View is deleted.
WPINDEX, WPIDS and WPIX offer all search functions of STN's databases including automatic alert services.
