Oxoid is supplying Brilliance MRSA Agar to hospital laboratories worldwide to solve the problem of MRSA screening.
Oxoid Brilliance MRSA Agar is a selective chromogenic medium that permits primary growth, selectivity and differentiation of MRSA colonies on a single plate.
Brilliance MRSA Agar is fast and reliable and, unlike other rapid methods such as PCR, requires no capital outlay and is accessible to every hospital laboratory.
Brilliance MRSA Agar is already being used by many microbiology laboratories, including all three sites in the year-long pilot screening programme currently running in Scotland: at NHS Ayrshire and Arran, NHS Grampian and NHS Western Isles.
Trials began in April 2008 and are backed by GBP7m of government investment.
