Millipore has released the VOC-Pak cartridge for complete removal of VOCs from ultrapure water.
The analytical methods used to test drinking water and other samples for VOCs use ultrapure water as a critical reagent.
Designed for use with Millipore's Type I water-purification systems (such as the Milli-Q, Direct-Q, Synergy and Simplicity systems), the VOC-Pak cartridge can easily be connected to these systems' water-dispensing outlets to provide VOC-free water for standard solutions preparation, sample dilution or glassware rinsing.
The VOC-Pak cartridge employs activated carbon-purification media to produce water in which the VOC concentration is below the analytical quantification limit for a number of common VOCs, provided that the VOC concentration in feed water does not exceed 1ppb (1ug/L) and the total oxidisable carbon (TOC) of the ultrapure water entering the VOC-Pak cartridge is below 5ppb.
The VOC-Pak cartridge can remove VOC molecules such as: carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), benzene (C6H6), chloroform (CHCl3), dibromochloromethane (CH2ClBr) and toluene (C6H6CH3).
Volatile organic contaminants (VOCs) are regularly monitored in drinking-water worldwide following norms established by the WHO as well as regulatory agencies in the US, Europe, Japan and China.
The VOC-Pak cartridge joins Millipore's range of point-of-use (POU) final filters, which includes: the EDS-Pak point-of-use polisher for production of endocrine disrupter-free water; the Biopak ultrafiltration cartridge for preparation of pyrogen- and nuclease-free ultrapure water for use in cell culture, biochemistry or molecular biology applications; and the Millipak filter with Millipore Express 0.22um membrane filter for the removal of particulates and bacteria from ultrapure water in analytical applications such as spectrophotometry, spectroscopy and chromatography.
