Celsum Technologies is now offering the Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) analyser from Dynisco.
The LOI is an instrument that allows the flammability of materials to be assessed.
The composition of the atmosphere, usually of nitrogen and oxygen, in a test chamber may be altered precisely using two supplied needle valves and, with the sample ignited, the proportion of oxygen in the atmosphere is reduced until the material will no longer burn, from which value the characteristic LOI may be calculated.
The LOI provides a means for quality control and determining the relative flammability of plastics, textiles and other materials by calculating the minimum oxygen content that will support combustion.
It allows tests to be conducted to ISO 4589 and ASTM D2863 standards and has two precision flow meters to allow accurate adjustment of the gases and, thus, accurate calculation of the oxygen concentration.
The instrument is provided with dual gas line inlet filters, dual gas pressure gauges, an ignition wand (with a variable gas control valve) and a rigid specimen holder.
Available optionally are U-shaped holders for non-rigid specimens and smoke density measurement systems.
Roy Carter, managing director of Celsum Technologies, said: 'The LOI is an easy-to-use instrument that is invaluable for assessing the flammability and burning characteristics of a wide range of materials used in both the domestic and industrial environments and is of use in both the research and development laboratories and for quality control and assurance.'
