Biotecon Diagnostics supports successful test laboratories with its sensitive and specific salmonella kit for the rapid detection of salmonella in food samples containing peanut butter.
This comes in response to an emergency response validation (ERV) based on a salmonella-contaminated sample of peanut butter with more than 700 infected people and a recall of more than 3,900 food products.
The participation of Biotecon Diagnostics and Merck KGaA in this ERV predicated on the following rapid method: a food-proof salmonella detection kit, hybridisation probes (LC 1 x 2.0) in combination with the food-proof Short Prep I Kit (for the DNA extraction of salmonella).
In addition to this the food-proof salmonella detection kit, 5'Nuclease - based on the Taqman real-time PCR technology - was also tested with the identical peanut-butter samples.
The results indicated a 100 per cent agreement with the approved food-proof salmonella kit based on the hybridisation probes technology.
The food-proof salmonella detection kit was validated by the AOAC-RI in the Performance Tested Methods programme for the detection of salmonella species in a variety of foods.
The method was shown to be equivalent to the FDA BAM and USDA/FSIS MLG reference culture procedures.
The AOAC-RI approval of the food-proof salmonella 5'Nuclease kit for foods is currently in progress.
As a representative of the complete food-proof product line, the salmonella detection kit is one part of Biotecon Diagnostics' programme for the rapid and convenient manual or automated detection and confirmation of important food pathogens, such as Listeria spp.
and monocytogenes, E.coli O157, E.sakazakii, pathogenic campylobacter and other pathogens.
